Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often. If yours is not here, email info@jonathanquearney.com or message us on WhatsApp and we will come back to you.

Bespoke and made to measure

What is the difference between bespoke and made to measure? Bespoke is cut from a paper pattern drafted for you alone, made largely by hand, with three fittings along the way. Made to measure starts from an existing block adjusted to your measurements, with two fittings. Both are measured and fitted by Jonathan. Bespoke suits start from £4,000; made to measure suits from £1,750.

How long does a suit take? Bespoke takes around ten to fifteen weeks; a six to eight week express service is available. Made to measure takes around seven to eight weeks, with a four-week express service in selected English cloths.

Do I have to decide on the day? No. The first appointment is for measuring, looking at cloth and talking through what you want. We are happy to give you time to understand what is involved and to reflect before you decide to go ahead.

Appointments and visits

Where are you? At 381 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LP. Appointments are by arrangement, including early mornings and evenings.

Do you visit customers at home or at work? Yes. Jonathan regularly visits customers across London, Kent and Sussex, including Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Wadhurst, Mayfield and the Weald and East Grinstead and Forest Row. Measuring, fittings and delivery can all be done at your home or office.

What happens at a first appointment? We talk about how and where you will wear the garment, look at cloths together, take your measurements and discuss style details. It usually takes about an hour. See the Appointments page to book.

Replica

What is Replica? We take a suit, jacket or pair of trousers you already love, measure it precisely and make it again in a cloth of your choice. You send us the garment and we return it with the new one, so it works anywhere in the world. Replica suits are from £1,950.

How long do you need my original garment? Up to two weeks from the day we receive it. If you need it back sooner, tell us when you order.

Shirts and trousers

How much are shirts and trousers? Shirts are £350 bespoke and £175 made to measure, with a minimum first order of five bespoke or three made to measure. Replica shirts are bespoke only, from £450. Trousers are £1,050 bespoke and £450 made to measure.

How long do shirts take? Eight to ten weeks for a first order and six to eight weeks for repeats.

How should I look after my shirts? Wash at 40°, never tumble dry, and iron cuffs, collar, yoke, back, fronts and then sleeves. A good dry cleaner is the best option if you would rather not launder them yourself.

Paying and terms

How do I pay? For bespoke and made to measure, a 50% deposit is taken when you order and the balance is due at the final fitting. Replica is paid in full when you order. Prices include VAT.

What if I change my mind? Our cancellation terms, including what happens once your cloth has been ordered, are set out in full in our Tailoring Terms.

What do you keep on file? Your measurements, pattern and fitting notes, so we can make for you again. How we store and use them is in our Privacy Policy.

Our full Tailoring Terms and Privacy Policy are here for anything else.
