Cutting a bespoke jacket in the Jonathan Quearney workroom, for customers in Wadhurst, Mayfield and the Weald

Bespoke tailor visiting Wadhurst, Mayfield and the Weald

Jonathan Quearney is a Savile Row-trained bespoke tailor who lives on the edge of the Weald and comes to customers across it: Wadhurst, Mayfield, Ticehurst, Frant, Rotherfield, Crowborough, Burwash and Heathfield, and the farms and villages between.

Out here a trip to London for three fittings is a day gone each time, so we bring the tailoring to you. The first appointment takes about an hour at your home: cloth bunches and pattern books on the kitchen table, a conversation about what the garment is for and how you dress, and your measurements. The fittings happen at home too, with your own shirts, shoes and, if it matters, your boots.

Bespoke suits and jackets are cut from a pattern drafted for you alone and finished over three fittings; suits are from £4,000. Made-to-measure suits, with two fittings, are from £1,750. Trousers and shirts are made the same way.

Town and country

Customers in the Weald tend to want both: a suit or dinner jacket for London and occasions, and tweed jackets, a covert coat, cord and flannel trousers for the rest of the week. The cloths come from the English and Scottish mills, and a tweed jacket made properly will outlast several seasons of anything bought off the peg. Every appointment is with Jonathan himself, and we are happy to give you time to understand what is involved and to reflect before you decide to go ahead.

“Produced a beautiful jacket to my unusual specifications. A wonderful experience from a master craftsman.”
