Sartorial Vancouver!

On my latest trip to North America, I caught up with Charles Lee in Vancouver. For those of you who don’t know, Charles is the man behind the Sartorial Vancouver Sartorial Vancouver blog. On my last visit in October 2009 I was lucky enough to be interviewed by him and this time Charles went a stage further and I measured him up for a bespoke sports jacket.

Charles Lee.jpg

This gives me the perfect opportunity to document the process on the blog, so that any prospective customer can see how it all works.

Charles has chosen a beautiful Dormeuil 11oz jacketing with a very subtle blue windowpane which I think will make up into a refined and sophisticated jacket which will only improve as it ages.

Charles Lee Dormeuil.jpg

Expect a new update and more pictures as the jacket progresses!

Sports Jackets

Here’s a nice medium weight (11oz) sports jacket of the kind which I am finding are becoming more and more popular, especially in North America.

”

There are several factors why I think sports jackets like this are regaining some popularity. The subtle, but interesting cloth from Dormeuil means that it does not look old-fashioned and can be worn casually or formally, with or without a tie. It is also not a very heavy traditional tweed, which would make it unwearable for most of the year in some of the warmer states, and the slim, flattering cut lifts it to a more modern look.

A Dark Blue, Electric Blue and Light and Dark Khaki Medium-weight Sports Jacketing

For a versatile and interesting jacket which can pretty much be worn all year round to most situations, a sports jacket like this can’t be beaten!

North America Tailoring Trip: Los Angeles!

Good evening everyone – after a brief relapse over Easter I thought I would let you know how my latest trip to North America went. I made an unscheduled trip to Los Angeles after being encouraged to hop down the coast for the day and I have to say it totally exceeded all my expectations! I only had less than 24 hours so didn’t get to see the sights, it wasn’t even enough time to see all my new customers, but I will be sure to book more time there on my next trip.

Hollywood, Los Angeles

It seems that a more informal but still tailored look is the most popular and this gives me the chance to use all sorts of different weight and pattern cloths. Once we get some cut and fitted I will get some pictures up as soon as possible. Needless to say, it looks like LA will become a regular stop for me.

Upcoming tailoring trip to Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco and New York

Good morning everyone – a quick post to remind readers that next week I will be in North America (Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco and New York to be precise) and that there are still some free appointments. Even better news is that the exchange rate is hovering just over 1.5 (US$) and 1.55 (CAN$) and it may slide further.

Pounds

This makes our prices, which are already free of sales tax, look very attractive:

Custom tailored Jacket: from US$690 or CAN$710

Bespoke Jacket: from US$1,900 or CAN$1,960

2 piece custom tailored suit: from US$1,020 or CAN$1,050

2 piece bespoke suit: from US$2,520 or CAN$2,610

3 piece bespoke suit: from US$3,015 or CAN$3,115

Custom tailored shirt: from US$170 or CAN$180

Bespoke shirt: from US$290 or CAN$300

Of course, any major fluctuations in the exchange rates may have to be taken into account once I am over the Atlantic. In addition, these prices include a 10% introductory discount because we believe in introducing all our customers, and especially our younger customers, to the traditional Savile Row standards of excellence, service, comfort and fit.

We hope that this will go some way to reversing the current shopping trends and to return to an age where choice, anticipation and personal service define the whole experience. The strong dollar means that this is an excellent time to sample Savile Row quality for less!

North America Tailoring Trip March 2010

Hello again to Everybody, and if this is your first time reading the blog, welcome.
I am heading over to North America for my next transatlantic tailoring trip. I will be there from March 7th - 13th and will visit Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco & New York. This trip is slightly later than usual due to the Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver and I have also had to move hotels in Toronto from Le Germain to the SoHo Metropolitan; the CRFA Trade Show seems to have taken over the city.

If you would like to make an appointment to come and see me in one of the cities I'm passing through then please get in touch now because as ever I am quickly getting booked up. For the full itinerary please scroll down.

Style Update: Ideas for Summer

The rope shoulder gives a traditional feel, and a white shirt with a classic shirt collar and french blue tie, both available from the London shop, creates a stylish summer business suit. Jonathan will be bringing a small selection of our ties on this trip to North America.

STYLING UPDATE

As Outfitters, we offer a full range of garments, from shirts to traditional English morning dress, from casual trousers to classic tuxedos. For shirts we use only the finest Swiss or Sea Island cottons up to Super 200s quality and for other garments we have cloth to suit every taste, ranging from textured Harris and Donegal Tweeds to luxurious super-fine wools, cashmere or silks, in every colour and pattern.
Bespoke tailoring is the new standard for both formal and informal menswear. Customers are becoming increasingly discerning and do not want to compromise on design or quality. STYLING UPDATE

I will be taking orders for the usual tailored suits that we all wear and would also like to keep you up to date on with what styles we are suggesting as our current house style.

DOUBLE BREASTED

There is a whole new generation of our clients trying out double-breasted jackets. If you don't have one in your regular suit rotation I recommend you get one in there now. Some are choosing midnight blues this goes well with a pair of wayfarer Ray Bans. The best way to show off the overlap on a DB is by using a stripe to direct the eye down and across the jacket. Worsted flannel is the best cloth type for stripes. Wide muted chalk stripes for a traditional look or narrower softer stripe can be worn together or separately, with cashmere polo or turtleneck and trousers.

CASUAL TAILORING

We have started to develop casual tailoring with different fabrics. These are sourced carefully and we stock them at the London shop. Our casual tailoring is becoming very popular. This is mainly due to its soft structure that renders it extremely comfortable.

I will be bringing along a selection of exclusive one off fabrics that give tailoring a different look for casual wear.

If you have any queries do not hesitate to contact us using the details below.

For appointments please email or call 0044 207631 5132.
